Final Exams! Continuing Education Should Be Mandatory
As many students begin to prepare for the dreaded FINALS WEEK I thought it a good time to remind all of us how to study.
Our quest for knowledge should never end. So many professions require continuing education, so their professionals stay on top of their game. I challenge you, that all business owners should have their own continuing education plan! For those of us trying tolearn something new and really absorb and implement it here are a few tips on improving your study time.
This past several weeks I have been on a mission to learn new skills and resources that will make me a more valued resource for my clients. I have always had a passion for learning, unfortunately I am not so great at retention. I have found myself on several occasions down the preverbal “rabbit hole”. Hours have slipped away as I explore the vast base of knowledge on the internet. While this has been an enlightened experience, I would not call it productive.
When I finally picked my head up, I was overwhelmed with the unchecked items on my personal and business to do list. I now had all this great knowledge that I was ready to implement, but first I had to take care of the overdue piles of tasks and commitments I had made.
I Forgot To Have A Plan!
I preach strategy and planning in every aspect of business. There is not a presentation I give that does not circle back to having a plan with the answers to who, what , where, why and when. These lost few days (yes I said DAYS!) have reinforced my passion for having a plan. I forgot to build my plan for continuing education and my thirst for knowledge ran over every other aspect of my life.
In my exploration, I found this article insightful. It actually broke the cycle of unending research. I shared it with the students in my life preparing for finals, but I find it pertinent to myself as well.
I have learned my lesson and now will have a plan- a full blown continuing education plan- for myself.
